Cantina Talk: George Lucas Worked on the Rise of Skywalker Story

It would stand to reason that the weeks following Star Wars Celebration would be light on Star Wars news, considering those five days gave the fans a movie title, a new trailer, lots of details about the Mandalorian TV show and the Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge theme park attraction, and all kinds of other smaller tidbits. And yet, there's been a steady stream of news ever since. It is a May the Fourth miracle? Doesn't matter; we'll take it. Your full roundup of Star Wars news is below. Before we go any further, however, we need to note the sad passing of Peter Mayhew, the man who brought Chewbacca to life. He appeared in five Star Wars movies as the …

We Photographed 19 People With Limb Differences Aged From 2 To 54 In Body Confidence Shoot

On April, 19 Zebedee Models from ages 2 to 54 took part in this stunning body confidence shoot with photographer Elise Dumontet. All the Zebedee models have either been born with a limb difference or had an amputation, the images are a celebration of their self-love and their body acceptance. Whether their difference is acquired (through cancer, meningitis, accident, diabetes, ex-veterans) or congenital, they really don’t want to fall on their feet anymore, they simply want to be able to stand tall, with and/or without prosthetics. We all know positive representation matters, be it in the arts, in fashion or in the media. And yet, these guys can probably count on their fingers how many times they’ve seen themselves being …

If you ask survivors what has made them strong, you can be sure most wont credit the harms they suffered or the assailants who harmed them. Yet Sansa Stark in Night King and the Army of the Dead. Trump Pits Florida Against Puerto Rico Over Emergency Aid: ‘They Don’t Like Me’

PANAMA CITY BEACH, Fla. ― President Puerto Rico at a rally  The Trump administration plans to provide 90% of federal emergency cleanup funds to the state of Florida to help with repair after Hurricane Michael struck last October, Trump said at his rally in Panama City Beach, Florida. Aware of complaints about a lack of disaster relief funding, the president blamed Democratic lawmakers and told his supporters, “You’re getting your money one way or the other.” once again demonizing the island of Puerto Rico, which continues to struggle after Hurricane Maria hit in 2017, causing an estimated 3,000 deaths. “It’s the most money we’ve really given to anybody. We’ve never given $91 billion to a state,” he said. Congress provided …

Joe Jonas And Sophie Turner Got Married In Vegas

I really never anticipated that I would be thinking about the Jonas Brothers this much in 2019, but life is crazy sometimes. Obviously, everyone was losing their minds when they released their comeback single “Sucker,” but things aren’t slowing down. Just in the past 24 hours, they announced their first tour in nearly a decade, performed at the Billboard Music Awards, and had a wedding. That’s right, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner tied the knot last night in Las Vegas, after attending the BBMAs together. We’ve got the Game of Thrones predictions on lock this season, but this was one plot twist we definitely didn’t see coming. Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner have been together since late 2016, and they first announced …

Hip-hop group honored with Staten Island district in their name while former president gets own boulevard in Los Angeles They are very different honorees and they were immortalized in places thousands of miles apart, on opposite coasts, but the exuberant celebrations and the infectious sense of occasion were shared. While part of the New York City borough of Staten Island was named Wu-Tang Clan District this weekend, after the hardcore hip-hop group some of whose members hail from the area, a street in Los Angeles was named dubbed Wu-Tang Clan District. This is a great day where we have an opportunity to honor our own hometown heroes, the young men who put Staten Island on the map internationally. They overcame …

Thailand King Maha Vajiralongkorn crowned in elaborate three-day celebration

(CNN)Thailand has crowned its new king in a $31 million three-day celebration that comes almost 69 years to the day since the last coronation. He also delivered his first royal command as King, saying, “I shall continue, preserve, and build upon the royal legacy and shall reign with righteousness for the benefit and happiness of the people forever.” In some ways, Thitinan said the celebrations are likely to be relatively “modest” compared with those for the late King’s 60th anniversary in 2006, when the Sultan of Brunei, the Emperor of Japan, and Queen Elizabeth’s son Prince Andrew traveled to Bangkok for the occasion. This time, no foreign dignitaries have been invited. Who is King Vajiralongkorn? King Vajiralongkorn studied in Australia …

Beyond fabulous: how camp created the Met Gala’s craziest red carpet ever

From Cardi Bs fabulous feathers to Katy Perrys light-up chandelier, the Met Gala more than lived up to this years camp theme. But, for all the silliness, it had a serious point to make Heads up: Jared Leto. Photograph: Raymond Hall/GC Images The bar for party dressing this summer just got pretty high. Billy Porter arrived at the Met Gala in a catsuit with gold wings, reclining on a chaise longue carried by six shirtless men part Icarus, part Cher-by-Bob-Mackie, part Liz Taylor in Cleopatra. Lady Gaga made not one entrance, but four, dressed like a Russian doll in three ballgowns on top of each other for a red-carpet striptease of fuschia and black taffeta. Jared Leto accessorised his look …

Hamas Started a War Over the Song Contest That Gave Us ABBA: Eurovision

ASHKELON, IsraelThree out of the four Israelis killed during the weekend war between Israel and Hamas were hit by rockets that landed in this beach town, which has the sixth-largest population in Israel. It was the heaviest bombardment from Gaza since the 2014 war, with almost 700 rockets launched into Israel in 48 hours, leading to a strange cacophony: the silence of the empty city, the rustle of the breeze coming in from the Mediterranean, the wail of sirens, the tremble and roar of explosions, the whistle of missiles flying overhead and the non-stop muffled booms of Israels internationally brokered ceasefire agreement that neither side acknowledges. About 23 Gazans were killed by Israeli bombardments, which followed an incident Friday when, …

In in the Battle of Winterfell and toast the fallen. Jaime, Tyrion, Pod and Brienne engage in a fun lil Westerosi spin on Never Have I Ever, with the newly minted knight confessing shes a virgin, much to the interest of the Kingslayer. The Hound has a nice bonding moment with the equally cynical Sansa, the just ask George W. Bush), its either an outrageous oversight or nice little Easter egg for eagle-eyed fans. Cider Shop Sues Portlands Far-Right Extremists

For years, a far-right group has led bloody brawls in the streets of Portland, Oregon. Now the fight appears headed for the courthouse, thanks to a local brewery thats had enough of the throwdowns. The group is Patriot Prayer, whose members champion Islamophobic causes and violence against their opponents on the left. Headed by Joe Gibson, the groups members were involved in a bloody brawl against anti-fascists at the Portland bar Cider Riot on May 1. Cider Riot, which sometimes hosts events like film screenings and a Rock Against Fascism concert, has been a repeated target of Patriot Prayers ire. Now the bar is asking for a jury trial and $1 million from Patriot Prayer and its leaders, citing negligence, …

Dutch Bros Coffee hopes to raise $1.5 million for ALS research on Drink One for Dane Day.

When Dutch Bros. Coffee founder Dane Boersma got terribly sick, the family thought he had Lyme disease. It turned out to be ALS. At the time of his dad’s diagnosis, Brant Boersma knew almost nothing about ALS. All he really knew was that Lou Gehrig had it and was forced to retire from baseball because of it. “Now I know more than I wanted to,” says Boersma. “This disease is brutal. It’s evil. To put it simply, you slowly become a prisoner to your body. In my Dad’s case it was slow moving, but when it’s so intimate to your life, time doesn’t matter anymore.” ALS is notoriously difficult to diagnose, especially in the early stages, because it mimics many …

‘Hilerious’! Enjoy this short video of a Portland anti-ICE protester trying to spell ‘privilege’

Earlier we told you about independent journalist Andy Ngo who “was gut-punched and sprayed with pepper spray by Antifa goons while covering the May Day protests in Portland, OR yesterday.” All that and much more is discussed in his thread that starts here: Portland’s #MayDay was a celebration of Marxism, socialism & communism. It called for violence against border enforcement & even the destruction of the U.S. I will upload footage that I recorded in chronological order. #antifa pic.twitter.com/PAtFjNcCcc — Andy Ngo (@MrAndyNgo) May 2, 2019 Included in the mix, Ngo also shared a video of a protester who was using sidewalk chalk but needed a little help: A protester asks for help in spelling “white privilege” outside the @ICEgov …

May Day celebrated with fire festival

Image copyright Nathan Goodfriend A procession of fire, drums, and otherworldly characters set off from an opening sequence on the National Monument to the lighting of a huge bonfire, watched by an audience of 7,000. The festival tells the story of the transition from winter to summer, which can only happen when the Green Man, an archetypal figure in folklore all over the UK, dies and is reborn again. Beltane traditionally celebrates human ties with the natural world, and some groups highlighted that environmental message. Parts of the May Queen’s dress were made out of recycled materials and visually represented oil spills and deforestation.
